I agree with the usernames you mentioned here… Copyblogger is one of my favorites!

That being said, I use my real name…

The thing is… if you’re not doing something you can be proud of (even if others don’t agree – maybe especially if others don’t agree) then why do it?

If you need to hide from your boss or be anonymous online I think its probably not a healthy thing.

I have been debating myself with this question, you have cleared it out for me, I been using my nick name ” HeadlessGeek” and been wondering if I should use my real name, But I think just like in showbiz Actors always use a different name or last name just because they are selling their image and if that is what you are doing as a blogger you should look for a name that represents what you are.

I maintain both real name, user name, and pseudonyms and therefore a great number of emails and passwords as well. I will use multiple names for the differing type of media I am dealing with so that a type of brand recognition is achieved. For example the use of the name Polemicist is quite apt for comments within blogs. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/polemics

Unfortunately I know what can be done with personal information and have used that knowledge to my advantage at every opportunity and have been shocked by the ease with which it can be used. Therefore I am what you would call a little paranoid about releasing details of a personal nature to people I don’t know physically. I’m even paranoid enough to read every contract I sign and ask for written clarification on points if I require it.

It is much easier to kick the butt of someone that wrongs you when you know where they live than to cyber kick someone… :)
